I don't know how many of my readers know or realise this fact: Aishah is actually Malaysia's FIRST and only international diva who has had a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Read more here. BONUS MEDLEY : Sembunyi (Misha+Andy) & Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (Melly Goeslow feat Eric)


One word: Forgettable. Half way through the song, I was fidgeting with my Gucci bag and trying to find sweets. So I could throw them at Toi.


TOI : Kasih Berduka (M Osman)


As expected, Toi went off key. As expected, he mangled up his words. As expected, he demonstrated no vocal technique whatsoever. And as expected, he received applause and votes for his entertaining comedy act. With a giveaway party song like this, put anyone in his place and we will still be entertained. People, I will say this one last time: TOI IS NOT A SINGER. This is a singing competition and he is making a mockery of AF by being in the competition. Big deal if some people thought he improved. I almost thought the same thing at the beginning of his catchy performance but then I realised he wasn't singing but was actually prancing about on stage like a well-trained and choreographed lead prop desperately trying to sound convincing.

1/5 for comedic entertainment value


NADIA : Karma (Cokelat)


Nadia has peaked and is finding it difficult to go to the next level in the competition. I am worried. Her teachers should also be worried. She started the song on a high, and stayed there throughout the entire performance. We didn't see any performance graph or any dips in energy levels to give the whole three minutes she was on stage any colour and variety. It was 1st gear full throttle all the way. Having said that, Nadia was totally in control of the stage, confident and had little vocal difficulty. I wish she wouldn't tekan her voice and meneran so much. It makes her sound less convincing as a storyteller. Except for the high gear, the performance was fine. Nadia is in great danger of not improving or giving us anything new or even entertaining us. I repeat, I am worried.

STANLY : Naluri Lelaki (Samsons)


This was Stanly's best performance of the entire season. He didn't over-sing, he handled the stage well, and technically he was almost flawless except for a few off notes here and there. Compared to his previous murders of songs, he was actually quite polished with Naluri Lelaki. Of course, he sounded nothing like the original singer, and singing a very famous and popular song can be devastatingly dangerous. Stanly pulled it off and made the song his. He is showing improvement, and sounding less classical. And his stage confidence has grown by leaps and bounds. I actually could feel his ease with the song and the audience. I liked how he went into the crowd and interacted. He also held everyone's attention and that is a sign that he is beginning to understand and implement what his teachers have been teaching him. Stanly entertained us and for once wasn't being technical. In my opinion he has finally earned himself a place in the competition for his hard work. And let's face it, his molot lancang in the academy keeps us all highly entertained. If he loses some weight, he would actually have better stamina. Who would like to start the STOP FEEDING STANLY CAMPAIGN?

RIZ : Laskar Cinta (Dewa)


Disconnect. That would sum up best what happened. Riz screwed up big time and this was, in my professional estimation, his worst performance so far. I will tell you why he screwed up. We all know he hates the song, and that in itself builds up a wall of negativity in the singer towards the song. It happened to Nubhan with Generasiku. But that's not the reason why he screwed up. Riz screwed up because Laskar Cinta was far too big a song for him to handle, emotionally, psychologically and vocally. The song chewed him up bit by bit as he struggled to sing. The vocal range spans almost two octaves in the chest voice; a challenge to any singer. Emotionally it is dark and very complex; also a challenge to any singer. Psychologically, it was already a gone case. All these factors led to him losing his notes, going off key and sounding simply horrible. Still, no excuse for a bad vocal delivery, and Riz has to learn to deal with challenges. I wanted to throw my Gucci bag at him when he squeaked in his falsetto one of the high chest notes. No vocal control. He tried to pick up the pieces towards the end but the damage had already been done. Thankfully, Riz excelled in delivering the broody mood the song called for. What I really wanted to do was throw my RM5.99 smelly rubber slippers at whomever was responsible for choosing this song for the students in the first place. This is NOT a competition song, people! Haiyo! We shall erase this performance from our memory.

NUBHAN : Hanya Engkau Yang Mampu (Aizat)


Well done Nubhan! What a turnaround! His tears jolted him into competing again. Nubhan got to grips with the stage and his stage fright. OK, so a few notes were shaky here and there, but it was technically far better than his previous efforts. Nubhan's intense delivery and feel for the song surmounted any technical flaws. He was convincing in his performance and the thunderous applause after the song said it all. Jangan pertikaikan undian Nubhan dan kedudukannya di tangga teratas. Considering how much he improved last night from his previous performances, it was well earned. It was the best male performance of the night. This week I didn't feel like throwing anything at the poor kid because he has finally silenced his detractors. One of his best performances to date. Nubies the world over can be proud of Nubhan. But I want to see him do better, because I know he can.

STACY : Gembira Hidup Ini (Farah)


Take a good look at the girl in these pictures. This is the look of someone confident, prepared, vocally poised (despite a sore throat), and mentally strong. Why mentally strong? Out of all the students of AF6, she is the only one who has not crumbled or had a nervous breakdown. Her blur-ness and her straightforward personality are what's keeping her sane and focussed. This is a star in the making. As for her performance, it was kacang for her. She showed even more confidence than before and absolute control of the stage. I would like to see Stacy sing asli next week. That is one genre of music she hasn't been challenged in yet.

MENUJU PUNCAK :


Linda Jasmine was sitting right in front of me and halfway through the song I leaned over and whispered, “so much better.” And she nodded in agreement. The singing still sucked, though. Oh well, some things will never change.


GENERAL OVERVIEW

We have come to that point in the season where changes cannot be made anymore. So let's just stick with the competition and finish it as best as we can. Production did a good job, and actually under-ran and had 5 minutes to spare before going off air.

One area can still be improved. Song selection. Astro, I'm offering my services.

Speculations are rife that there was no elimination last night because Astro wanted to save Nadia. Rubbish. It was always the plan to not eliminate anyone at the 8th concert. So please tell your mother and your father and your uncles and your aunties and everyone you know watching AF6 that Mr. Manager says not to believe wild rumours and conspiracy theories of Astro saving Nadia. Memang tidak ada penyingkiran seperti dirancang pihak produksi sejak awal minggu. (All votes from the last week and concert are carried forward to this week and the next concert.)
