The hero and heroin of the film that won 2 major prizes at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival recently, 'Orked' and 'Mukhsin':
MUKHSIN was premiered to a packed house at Mid Valley yesterday afternoon. The press and media came in full force. It was also nice to see that the production house also recognised the contribution of bloggers and had seats for them too.
After the preliminaries and speeches, we watched the film.
I laughed. I nearly cried. And I was thoroughly entertained. MUKHSIN is elegant, poetic and deceptively simple.
Yasmin, who wrote and directed the film, succinctly said, "MUKHSIN is all about having second chances in life". And she told that simple message movingly. Of course, the cinematography was classic Yasmin, the acting absolutely believable, and the art direction flawless. I can be a harsh critic, but with MUKHSIN, it was impossible to find any flaw.

Mohd Syafie Naswib, who played Mukhsin and turned fifteen recently, was inundated by the press. The poor boy looked petrified but handled the moment gloriously.
Thirteen year old Sharifah Aryana, the tomboy Orked in the film, deftly answered questions. For someone so young, she looked poised and was a joy to watch.
Yasmin Ahmad, the poet with a sharp eye and an even sharper mind.
Go and watch MUKHSIN. This is poetry in motion. If you have children, bring them. If you have grandparents, bring them too.

Me: Silly girl! Who chose the music for the film?
Yasmin: I did.
Me: Excellent choices.
Yasmin: You liked the operatic bit?
Me: I loved every song in the film!
Me: My most favourite scene was when the family was dancing in the living room and we're all happy and suddenly the camera reveals Mukhsin looking longingly from outside. What a heart-wrenching moment! You shouldn't play with our emotions like that!
Yasmin: That's the whole point!

Yes that scene. Who can forget that? It was amusing looking at 'Nuar Cheese' singing Ne Me Quitte Pas and the whole family dancing to the tune and suddenly.....

#1: ..sayangilah seseorg itu dgn apa yg ada, seadanya! mudahan dia akan menyayangi kamu juga dgn rasa yg sama, selama-lamanya..
#2: ..kadangkala seseorang yg kamu cari [the one] ada di hadapan mata tanpa kamu sedari! dan apabila dia tiada lagi barulah kamu kehilangannya.. merinduinya..
#3: ..menyayangi seseorang perlukan ketajaman taakul.. kenalilah dia setiap detik kerana mungkin ada latarnya yg kamu belum arif..
