Apparently, someone is not too pleased that Indonesian designer Jovian Mandagie (who is based in Malaysia and whose label is a Malaysian company) is dressing top celebrity DJ Linda Onn for the Oscars' red carpet on Monday in Hollywood. (Linda will be interviewing stars on the red carpet as they arrive.)
According to unconfirmed sources, early yesterday someone important 'advised' the station that Linda Onn must wear an outfit designed by a Malaysian designer at the glittering event, or else...
Jovian designed a beautiful and delicate kebaya labuh decked with Swarovski crystals and lace and fine embroidery for Linda. (Pic not available at time of writing.)
Poor Linda, who is now in Hollywood and focussing on her preparations for the big night, must be quite exasperated and disappointed that she cannot wear the designer of her choice, if this is all true. Nobody made a fuss when Maya Karin wore an off-the-rack BCBG (a foreign label) at the Oscars last year.

Congratulations Jovian Mandagie! You know you've arrived when established designers are threatened by you and go out of their way to push you aside publicly.
Post-script.

i went to school with jovian at setapak high school. his mom is indo, but his dad is apparently kelantanese. he was born in bandung but was brought up in kl ever since he was five. who is anyone to say that jovian is less malaysian then the rest of us? and why should he be penalized for also staying true to his indo heritage? afterall, its still in his blood. if a white washed stephen rahman can play our hero hang tuah without even understanding our language, jovian who speaks and breathe the malaysian way is getting axed for trying to make linda look good? this guy sang negaraku right next to me in school, for gods sake. tell me this whole thing isn't silly?

sapa??? akak x tau sapa orang yg PHD tu??
designer yg mano??
darn... another "political issue"... i fell sorry for Jovian Mandagie... whatever it is.... Please pray that Linda will wear Jovian's design (last minute's).... muhahahaha..... matilah i kena "kutuk"
i can never understand people who uses nationalism and patriotism to gain business advantage. in a globalised world, people like this will remain 'jaguh kampung'. they cannot survive without help from others. i hope to live to see a world where we compete on talent and ability rather than privilege and wealth...
lepat: you have a point there.
now the point is, is the designer doing it for the country's pride, or for himself?
Excuse me.. Siti Nurhaliza went unnoticed by AP, AFP, Reuters recently. Thanks to our very own Asian based TV crew for the 'exclusive' photos.
I kept refreshing my screen for the live pix from AFP over satellite for Siti's!! ...argghh and she didn't make it with the Malaysian outfit.
Give Linda the previlege to be up with the stars ;)
i hate it when there is political intervention in stupid2 areas. bende kici mcm ni pun nak pakai politik ke? even if its jovian's dress, still kebaya labuh which is M'sian outfit. bukannye some Indonesian outfit. i pity jovian...
susah2 sgt nak promote malaysia punya pasal, pakai jea t-shirt printed visit malaysia 2007...barulah patriotik nampak...hahhahhahaha...atau pakai baju bendera macam siti...designer mana pun tak boleh nak cakap apa!
that's one big smelly bitch man!

huhuhu...cam tula malaysian...very the patrioritic ...
i think i know who is the designer...hahahaha
anyway.... you just don't question the integriti of malaysian patriotism....
they're truly patriotic....especially when going international competition...(me include hahahahaha)
stay cool jovian, silent is gold. people not blind, we can see the truth of the whole story. kreatif, jujur dan berjiwa besar terima semua cobaan dan halangan. dont give uu ok? we all love u
go jovian go. we support u always.PHD tak lama jer, jap lagi habis dorang
WOW ... i can imagine how GREAT from your description of Jovian's designed outfit for Linda .... GREAT idea of a kebaya labuh as she is tall and slender with Swarovski crystals !!! ... I like it bling bling !!!
Lets see the 'other' outfit that she is wearing today ;)..... better be GREATER than Jovian's cos the whole Malaysia plus kat Singapore ni gonna to comment !!!
we really want to make it a fact that malays are born with hasad dengki intact?
Yus.. I believe hasad dengki is in every one self. The difference is how we manage it..positive or otherewise. It's not just in a particular.
You shouldn't have raised that question of yours .

setiap yg berlaku pasti ada hikmah nyer.... dengki? bkn soal dengki soal keutamaan... org malsyia lebih layak k yus.... yus kenal ker ngan jovian itu... kenal ker hati budi nyer.... patut kenal sebelum berkata2....jgn potong jalan orang lain kerana balasan nyer sudah pun tiba... ini lah yg diterima.... ini baru sedikit, banyak lagi yg akan menjelma dan bakal tiba jika asyik memotong jalan org lain...
yg aku nampak that designer yg asik potong jalan orang lain
like what dia buat waktu wedding erra fazira.
and kes dgn sharifah kirana. kes curi design hiks.
dengar cerita budak mm tu ker yus....huhuhuhuuh.... antahlah.....aku mungkin tak suka orang yg hasad dengki..tapi jovian tu hasad dengki nya pun kuat gak kan.. dia pun suka gak potong jalan org...huhhuuhuh...suka celah bedah...lepas tu nie jer lah balasan untuk dia...huhuhuhu.....aku suka sangat... mungkin dia memerlukan cermin....kalau aku jadi rr pun aku wat cam 2 gak....
go designer malysia terutamanya melayu...huhhuuh
It's true what yus said. Hasad dengki. Nothing to do with Malaysian made or not. The choice of dress is Linda's, not anybody else. If she feels that somebody else can do a better job, why not? Sampai bila org kita nak pakai crutch? Dapat bisnes gomen je? Yang ada political connection je yang kenyang? Lagipun, the dress design tu pun melambangkan baju kebaya, kan? So, what's the fuss?
tsk.... tsk... tsk... sampai Oscar tahun depan pun belum reda agaknye kes nie.... ** larrriiiii
Tolong lah malu kat bangsa lain.. kenapa nak dengki sesama sendiri.. "BENAR KATA DR. M! MELAYU MUDAH LUPA".
Zaman maya karin pegi, takde pun bising pasal baju, ni time Linda pegi pulak tiba-tiba jadi macam ni. Tapi dah takde rezeki Linda nak appear kat red carpet pun, tu semua kuasa-Nya. Anyway, my other point is, will the person who gets to go next year face the same thing Linda had recently? Just wait and see. Shame on you RR or whoever you are.
How you and these others write on something unsubstatiated beats me!
